Abstract

Rational orthogonal expansions can be considered as generalizations of Fourier series expansion. We introduce the so called Adaptive Fourier Decomposition (AFD) and its relations to a number of mathematical subjects, including best n-rational approximation, Beurling-Lax backward shift operator invariant subspaces, phase and amplitude retrieval problems, etc
