In this talk, I will give a brief introduction on the variational methods of N-body problem in celestial mechanics from 2001-2014 with emphasizing the work of our collaborate research group.According to Newton's second law, the motion of N point bodies with positive masses m1, m2,…,mN located at positions is governed by the system of second-order nonlinear vector difference equations
where the derivative is with respect to the time variable t, and G is the universal gravitational constant.By using examples I will demonstrate the new variational method on the discovering new periodic orbits of the n-body problem in celestial mechanics. The original ideas combine with vivid numerical simulation will be presented in this talk. |
